New 2017 Chevrolet Equinox at McLoughlin Chevrolet for Milwaukie, OR

A tried and true compatriot in the compact crossover SUV market, people like that they know what they are getting, and it's affordable comparatively with similarly sized vehicles. It really shines in rear-passenger seating, and still has plenty of cargo space to spare. The 2017 Chevy Equinox lets you adjust the maximum height of the liftgate on 2LT and Premier models, saving it from dings and worse if it raises at the wrong time. This is a user-concerned feature that the Equinox is taking the lead on, responding to feedback about auto-liftgates in general. Also new for 2017, the Equinox's LTZ trim level is renamed Premier, while the LT trim gets two new options packages, the Midnight or Sport packages. Let's go further into this vehicle to really explore it's staying power and features.

Under the Equinox's Hood

The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox rolls into this year relatively unchanged but with good reasons: owners consistently pick it when comparing it to SUV's and compact-SUVs alike.  It has more room than the leading compact-SUV's and competitive fuel economy when compared with large SUV's. And unlike those compact-SUV competitors, the affordable Equinox offers a 3.6 liter V6 engine with 301 horsepower and 3,500-pound towing capacity. That said, catering directly to owner's needs, the standard 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine with Eco Mode is meant to answer your needs on fuel economy, and the V6 is provided optional for your hauling and (also) speed-requiring endeavors. Truly it's more of a smooth ride with a serene and almost silent cabin that passengers will certainly appreciate. Both engines come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional except on the base L trim.

Design of Chevrolet Equinox

Equinox catches your eye with its chrome-accented dual-port grille, halogen projector-beam headlamps and the optional rectangular-shaped dual exhaust on the V6 model. The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox is a compact crossover SUV that's offered in four trim levels: L, LS, LT and Premier. Standard equipment on the entry-level L includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, AC, a 60/40-split second-row seat that slides and reclines, and cruise control. Onboard, the Equinox L comes standard with Bluetooth phone connectivity, a 7-inch touchscreen interface, a rearview camera and a six-speaker sound system with an aux audio input jack and a USB port. The LS has available all-wheel drive, a compass and an available towing package that's likewise optional on LT and Premier. The LT adds body-color mirror housings, rear privacy glass, heated mirrors, LED daytime running lights, roof rack side rails and an upgraded touchscreen infotainment system that includes Chevy's MyLink interface, and Bluetooth audio connectivity. Enter the Premier trim, which adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, remote start, heated front seats, and much more. Throw on one of the Midnight packages (including black wheels, paint, exterior accents and interior leather trim) or the Sport package (all the same but substituting white paint).

Conclusions

This vehicle is a real competitor in that it just provides what you need, without getting lost in all the possible tech, engine capabilities, or design experiments that it could be doing, instead providing a solid and top-selling model that owners have come to rely on.  Proven safety features are also here, in the available Forward Collision Alert, available Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and the standard rear vision camera. In addition, Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Departure Warning are available and can accompany the standard safety features which include 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, TPS for tire monitoring, and electronic StabiliTrak. Six standard air bags (including side-impact air bags) are inside to help protect all, and the high-strength steel safety cage adds a sheltering buffer. This is the vehicle for you if you want no surprises, but tons of tested value that get you there and back with ease and comfort.
