The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado: One of Summer’s Most Highly Anticipated New Cars for Sale

The Chevrolet Silverado is perhaps one of the most iconic trucks on American roads. For this car model year, Chevy is pulling out all the stops to make sure that the Silverado maintains its superiority in the pickup truck segment. The new 2019 Silverado was recently unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and it’s already stirring up a lot of excitement among car aficionados months away from its official release.

Chevrolet made sure to retain many of the beloved features of the Silverado’s previous iteration, but they also made sure that the 2019 model is every bit the next-generation truck it is touted out to be. If the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is on the list of new cars for sale that you’d like to check out this summer, here are three new features that might impress you.

Lightweight Build

The new Silverado’s look isn’t much of a departure from last year’s model, but there are some notable cosmetic changes you’ll notice at first glance. The exterior has sharper, more defined lines, squinter headlights and a the Chevrolet moniker stamped onto the tailgate—a callback from the 1990s version of the Silverado. However, that isn’t to say that the 2019 version didn’t undergo radical changes from the inside. It might not be obvious, but the new Silverado is built with weight-saving materials and seven types of lightweight steel. This resulted in a decrease of 450 pounds from the truck’s overall mass and a slightly larger truck. It is equipped with a safety cage, a higher grade of roll-former steer for the bed, 80 percent high-strength steel for the frame, and door, hood and panels constructed with aluminum. All of this makes the Silverado more fuel-efficient than ever.

Trail Boss Trim

It’s a tradition for Chevrolet to make the Silverado available in a variety of trims, and this year is no different. For 2019, the Silverado will be available in eight different trims with crowd favorites, such as High Country, LTZ, LT, WT and Custom. There are also new trims like the RST, but what really stole the show during its debut are the LT Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss. The Trail Boss trim is unlike anything previously offered by the Silverado with its bold red paint color, striking black front fascia, black rear bumper, black wheels and black door handles. Based off the LT trim, the Trail Boss also has the Z71 Off-Road Package, Rancho shocks, off-road tires, 18-inch wheels, a locking differential, a 2-inch suspension lift.

Duramax Engine

Chevrolet did a complete overhaul when it comes to what’s under the hood of the Silverado this year. Gone is the old 6.2L EcoTec3 engine, but taking its place is a new Duramax 3.0-liter, inline-six diesel engine, and GM officials say that it will be among the top of its class with regards to torque, horsepower and fuel economy. Chevrolet also assures traditional truck buyers that 5.3-liter V-8 and 6.2-liter engines would still be available. Along with a new engine, Silverado fans can also expect six different engine and transmission combinations that include a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission developed with Ford.

The exciting reveal of the 2019 Silverado signifies the start of a new era of Chevy trucks, hinting that the car maker has so much more in store for car buyers. The new Silverado is expected to roll out to your nearest dealership by summer. More information on pricing, additional specs and other features will become available closer to launch, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates.
